OFF TO THE GAYMES

Last night was the opening of the First Annual Halifax Summer Gaymes. We gathered at The Commons where our Gaymes Grand Marshall, Joseph, handed out disposable cameras and instructions for our gay picture scavenger hunt. There were three teams of three and mine was made up of Jeff, Gilles and myself - TEAM BUZZ! The list of tasks we had to complete and photograph were just hilarious and I cannot wait to see the pictures ...

Gilles was the model while Jeff and I planned the choreography for each shot. Throughout the evening, Gilles proved time and again he had no fear whatsoever as he proceeded to perform every embarrassing task on the list. This included pulling up his shirt and sun tanning on the lawn of a mansion in the South End. He also asked three random strangers if they'd do a Charlie's Angels pose; convinced the grounds keeper at the Public Gardens to allow us to have our pic taken with him on his golf cart; climbed a tree; and did a cart wheel at Pizza Corner ... love to Gilles!

At one point things threatened to turn ugly as my teammates convinced me that I could make it to the top of that giant stone wave thingy on the waterfront. This was the landmark we had chosen for Gilles and I to do a re-enactment of the Kate and Leo pose from the front of the Titanic. I ran like the wind, in spite of the flip flops I was wearing, and I really did almost make it to the top when something happened and I started to slip. All of a sudden I was rolling down the damn thing and landed with a thud in a ball on the gravel. Three gaping wounds on my left foot and a torn up knee didn't seem to bother my teammates though. You'd swear we were in the Amazing Race the way they reacted when I told them I wanted to stop and clean my cuts. They feared we wouldn't finish our tasks by the deadline and so I was forced to limp on through the next ten items on our list. We did get our Titanic pose, albeit on top of a grave stone and I did get to clean my wounds, albeit in the sink at Tim Horton's on Robie Street! Luckily one of the tasks was to get a pic of one of the team members getting wet or they probably would not have let me do it then either!!!

Later we met at Tribeca for the opening reception. We had a few cocktails as we discussed the tasks we had performed. We toasted our Grand Marshall and we toasted myself as the winner of the best post-it-note break-up contest. And as the night drew to a close, we made the shocking discovery that Marcus has a fetish for people with Down's Syndrome ... because of this we decided all events at the Gaymes would be in aid of Down's!

The first round of the Gaymes was a smashing success and we all had so much fun! Stay tuned for the pics from the scavenger hunt and the announcement of the winning team ...
