HAMPSTERS AND OTHER SHORT THINGS

Tonight was the PS Atlantic Shorts Gala at the Oxford. Jake's film, Copain de Paix, was absolutely wonderful. Like the first movie, the continuing story of Copain and Henry was innocent and sweet and the visuals were stunning. I was very impressed with how much further Jake took this film compared to the last. He is very talented and I cannot wait to see what he comes up with for next year's AFF.

Mainly I go to this event to show support for Jake, but I have to say that I really enjoyed the other films in the series as well. There were three shorts from Newfoundland, one of which had a song by Ron Hynes and was narrated by Gordon Pinsent. Another had a guy in the cast who I know from my Liquid Ice days.

To keep with tradition, the night did not go without a celebrity sighting. Copain, Jake's hampster and the star of both his films, was in the back of the theatre signing autographs as we left. I gave him a humble congratulations but was too star struck to say anything more.

Afterwards Jeff, Jo and I went to the Shoe Shop. I had my first glass of red wine in a very long time and I'm afraid you were right Jo - I had a TERRIBLE headache afterwards! We discussed the films and planned for the upcoming AFF events.

20 Centimeters followed by the That's So Gay party is on tomorrow's agenda.
