MEXI'S AND MOVIE AND STARBUCKS ... OH MY!

Last night was one of my favourite events of the year - the Atlantic Film Festival's Film on the Hill. This year was even more exciting because the film was one of my all time favourites - "The Wizard of Oz." Jo, Jeff and Scott picked me up after work and we went to Mexi's for some dinner before the movie. The boys polished off a pitcher of Sangria as I got high on cold medication. The food was mediocre at best and we became the forgotten table as we waited forever for the server to bring us our bills. Obviously this girl had not heard about the power our restaurant blog reviews can have ... she should ask Luxx! Finally we got our bills after going to the counter ourselves and we rushed off to catch the movie. When we finally arrived on Citadel Hill, Dorothy & Toto had already landed in colourful Oz. We didn't really mind being late though. As I said to the boys - "we don't do black and white!"

We found a spot on the hill under a beautifully luminous moon and bundled up in our blankets, ready for the trip down the yellow brick road. The movie made me very nostalgic. I couldn't help but think back to waiting every year for CBC's annual showing of the movie (we only had two TV stations in rural NL at the time). I would invite all my friends over and we were glued to the television. Afterwards, we would act out the entire movie and sing all of the songs. I was going to ask the boys to do the same but didn't think they'd be too keen on the idea.

Jo and I kept remarking how the movie seemed a lot longer and more detailed when we were younger. We came the conclusion that we were watching the edited version. Better to believe that than to accept the fact that we are just old and jaded! Jo and I also joked that we were watching "The Wizard of Reflections" - $7 at the door of the Emerald City ... Glinda is the new Lulu LaRude. Jeff also said he thought the Tin Man was a homo. We were laughing and having a great time and Gilles joined in the fun a bit later.

When the movie ended we lay on the hill for a bit listening to a fag hag get angry with her gay couple for just wanting her around for her eggs ... EW! Eventually we had our fill of the gay impregnation discussion and decided to walk to Starbucks.

We played with our cell phones and discussed ring tones ... we were the gay versions of "Dungeons and Dragons" nerds. We stayed for over an hour, talking about nothing and everything. We left when I could no longer live with the suspense as to whether or not the guy in the corner with the "nice back of the head" had an equally nice front of the head. He DID!

It was a great night and it made me really excited for the film festival next week. And no matter what my dear friend Mandrew says, I think the Film on the Hill is one of the best events of the year and I love it !
