VOLVER

The movie was obviously a popular selection for AFF as the Oxford Theatre was full ... and rightfully so. It was a fantastically entertaining film. Colourful, funny, sweet, campy at times, with the undertone of some very serious issues and a touching message about family. I figured out the supposedly surprising twists very early in the film but it was still fun to watch how it all came out. Penelope, who I normally don't like, was really good (minus the lip syncing), and the actress who played her daughter was stunning. There were some loose ends that were all together forgotten about, but this seems to be Almodovar's style, and I love it.
Two pinky fingers way up for Volver, Pedro and Penelope!
Tomorrow I will go to the screening of Jake's short film, Copain de Paix . I am very excited and nervous for him. More on this and Requiem after tomorrow.
